Likes can only go so far for artists. Artists may exclusively upload their artwork to tumblr, or don’t have the time to use other sites and prefer tumblr over deviantART due to its simplicity, but the tagging system can make it harder to navigate. Many artists on tumblr tag with high-traffic tags or use their own tags to prevent tag clogging which eventually become lost. That’s why it’s very important to reblog an artist’s work. 

I’m not trying to push you to ruin your blog’s aesthetic or something, nor am I saying that “you must absolutely reblog your favourite artist’s work or you’re trash”, all I’m saying is if you truly want to support your favourite artist, instead of just liking their posts, try to reblog them once in a while. The more reblogs they receive, the more exposure/notes/followers they may receive, and it’s just one of the easiest ways to show you care about them.

Motherland Chronicles II Week 3 - Hanfu portrait with Alodia Gosiengfiao ❤️

Emo post incoming: so I fell and hit the back of my head on the ground yesterday. No blood and fractures this time and I even managed to finish this week’s Motherland piece somehow. Triggered me emotionally though. It’s weird how we can be so affected when we’re decades away from certain memories, yet they can still hurt and make us so angry. Depression sucks.

I realized I’m not strong. Not as strong as I wanted to be or as strong as I thought I was. And I hate that I tried, or tried to appear to be for so long.

When no one visited me in the hospital at 7 I thought the loneliness was absolute and normal. When I went for air rifle training after watching my friend’s cremation I thought it was my duty as a pro. At 15, I didn’t know I needed time after a funeral. I hate that no one told me that I could take the time off. I hate that I didn’t care for myself more.

Screw being strong. The brave face you put on so others don’t need to feel bad and pity you, so they can praise you a little cuz it’s the right thing to be, fuck that. You be whatever you can be so you can go on. Because life does, and it’s not an anime.

You’ll never be the genius kid who fights and wins against adults, who gets the justice you deserve and serves it to those who hurt you. You can fight and you will lose. You’ll get beaten and broken to pieces. You don’t know the rules adults go by, and there will be no magical saviors.

But you can claw out of it with your own two hands. You can walk away. Sever your entire life and walked away. Sometimes that’s all we can do. Take what you can and keep living, because life goes on.

You don’t have to be strong. It’s enough to just keep trying, to have the will to go on. So love yourself a little and never give up. You are enough.

I find it funny how this colour has evolved…
I have a picture on my wall of one of the shots from the first time I ever used this lighting style. The shot is very muted and the oranges and blues are far more desaturated than they are here. There’s nothing wrong with either of these two looks, but my modern saturated look is not necessarily ‘better’ than the original.

We spoke yesterday about how sharpness is a modern phenomenon that we strive for alongside the technology that enables it. But remember, sharper, more saturated shots isn’t always ‘better’.

The reason this is brought to mind is because a client got in touch recently asking for this orange and blue style of lighting, but they had found some of my older, more desaturated shots on my website as an example of what they were after.

My first reaction was how odd it was that somebody would prefer that 'older’ style look, but then I remembered, it’s not 'old’ to them at all, only me.

I guess the point I’m making here is that we shouldn’t have our artistic preferences dictated to by the technology we use to achieve it. We shouldn’t assume a sharper image is better, nor should we assume a more saturated image is better.

What we do is art and art is very subjective. For those of us lucky enough to be paid to produce it, don’t presume to know what you’re client wants based on how amazing your camera is. Just because you can capture, razor sharp, hyper-saturated images, don’t assume that’s always the 'best’ solution.

😅Anyway, there’s my Friday rant done. I swear these aren’t intentional, they just seem to come out on Fridays 😁
